The native Britons had a fort at Bamburgh until the site was captured by the Anglo-Saxons in the year 547. From then until 634 it was the capital of the kingdom of Bernicia, which stretched from the rivers Forth to Tees. However, the core of the current castle dates from the Norman era and the keep was probably built by Henry II.
Henry VI ruled all England (in name) from Bamburgh in 1464, during the Wars of the Roses. But, after a nine-month seige, the castle became the first to be defeated by artillery in England.
Restoration work was carried out from the 18th century onwards and was completed by the Victorian industrialist William Armstrong .

GHOSTS
*Many a ghostly story exists with Bamburgh Castle and some are well documented, but others are here to tell you more. They'll interact with you and as they did with Karl and Yvette in 'Most Haunted' and as many of the staff and family living there will tell you.
Its Ok seeing it on TV but experiencing it in 'Real Life' is an extraordinary experience you'll not forget.
As with any ghost story there are those that have been told and those simply not. These are the ones that'll make your hair stand on end. Your night with Exorcist and Medium Ralph Keeton will hold some dark secrets you'll have to be involved with on your own.
Ralph has worked with the likes of 'Most Haunted', Sony Films, ITV, BBC and with personalities such as Joe Swash (Joe's journey into the spirit world with Ralph Keeton). Ralph has recently worked with Karl and Yvette (Most Haunted) again on a new program for Channel 5 'Homes from Hell', where Ralph whilst filming in front of camera loses a tooth as a spirit fights back.
